THE WAITING

Time can be taken, suspended, or stretched beyond measure and perception. Sometimes by choice, sometimes by force.

“The Waiting” is a collaborative project developed with seven asylum seekers from Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Turkey, and South Sudan. Combining photographs taken by Ardennes and those made by the protagonists, along with written interviews recorded over the past two years, the work examines what it means to wait within a system where time becomes a new form of temporal imposition and forced immobility that cannot be influenced or controlled. Through the interplay of visual and narrative materials, the project renders visible an experience that is commonly overlooked and unheard into a photographic publication.
